Old Vault Story Number One
from Marci
Hailing From: Hot Springs, Arkansas
Where it Happened: This side of the tracks
Some friends and I had heard of the Gurdon Light in Gurdon, Arkansas. We finally decided to check out what all this hype was about. Now we wish we hadn't.
We live right outside of Hot Springs. We left our homes around 5:00 p.m. We arrived in Gurdon around 6:30. We drove down the little dirt road beside the railroad tracks and parked. The first thing we saw was a little cemetery beside the tracks and thought nothing of it. We continued our walk farther down the tracks. We walked about 2 1/2 miles (it took about an hour) and found our stopping point. We sat there and waited until a deathly black began to fill the sky. We continued sitting for about an hour or so, and that's when the horror began.
We heard loud crunching noises, which we thought were just nearby animals. Then we heard horrible sounds that cannot be described. We then decided it was time to start towards the car. About 10 minutes into our walk, we saw the Gurdon Light. That scared the hell out of us, but that isn't even the beginning.
The Light was coming towards us very slowly. We figured it was just a flashlight of other people coming to see IT. We started shining our flashlight in that direction, but the light was no longer there. We thought "they" were just trying to scare us. Then we saw it again. It was moving up and down, as if someone were carrying a lantern. It continued towards us. It seemed to have gotten 10 -15 feet from us. We were beginning to get really scared. Then all of a sudden, it disappeared.
We turned around and it was behind us, going farther away. By that time we were relieved and figured the rest of our walk would be uneventful, since we had seen what we had come there for. There were 4 more trestles we had to cross before we got to the car. We passed one. As we were approaching the next one, someone stopped and said, "Do you hear that?" It sounded like a baby crying in the distance, yet not too far away. My blood ran cold. I couldn't move. I wanted to cry. Then someone said that it was probably a bobcat. Still scared to death, we continued towards the car. We reached the car, which was directly across from the cemetery. We really didn't think about the cemetery until we heard crackling noises behind us. We turned around and the WHOLE cemetery was lit up green, the same color the light was as it was fading away. We screamed as we saw a ghostly figure in the cemetery drifting towards us. Of course we took off running towards the car.
All 6 of us jumped in the car and locked the doors. The driver put the keys into the ignition and they flew out, landing in the passenger's lap. As the driver tried frantically to put the keys in once more, they once again flew out. We sat terrified in the car as the figure drew closer and closer to us. This time, the passenger forced the keys into the ignition, and started the car.
We drove away, watching the figure float back into the cemetery. We have never returned to Gurdon and probably never will. To this day, we still cannot figure out if it was a ghost, or yet a mere shadow casted from the full moon. I've heard from many people that the "Light" isn't always seen, and some have not seen anything at all. But we will never forget our terrifying experience.
Old Vault Story Number Two
from Alex
Hailing From: State of Chihuahua
Where it Happened: Runnin' home from church
My mom has been telling me ghost stories, and I was wonering if the ghost that my mom sees in Mexico is from China?
See, Chinese people use to live in this little town in the State of Chihuahua and they were all killed by the locals. My family and my mom have had experiences with this ghost a lot. My mom describes him like this: He is tall has like a black cape, wears this hat this little like rope hanging from it and its like a big black sombrero, and has no face.
Her story is back when she was young like in her 20-30's she was running to her house cuz she had just come back from church. Some religious ceremonies last very long and this one had just finished at like around 2:30am. My mom was with her friends and she had to walk her friends home. So its like almost 3:00 and she is running home so she can make it before they turn off the electricity (back then they only had electricity until 3:00 in the morning).
So she is running and right when she tells one of her friends she walking with, that the lights are almost off, they turned off. My mom had her momentum going and she bumped into somebody. She looked up and saw no face but a lighted cigarrette. She screamed and he disappeared.
My grandma found her and guided her to the house after that. She said he was really tall, black cape, hat, and NO FACE. He has been seen around the house a lot and we hear him at night.
I just want to know why he wears that wierd hat? could he be from China?
Next week we'll revisit Andy Devine's Captain's Anchorage and George's story in Big Bear. Should be fun. There are a few more pics, stories from the menu, and more.
For those of you knee deep in snow ... a pleasant olde tune.
Anyone got a record player?
